UK charity Save the Children knows that seeing reports in the news or reading about events in war torn nations doesn’t always mean we truly understand the situation. With that in mind, they created a video to show what war is like for children – specifically, what it would be like for children in the UK.
Following the popular “second a day” format, the video starts out at a young girl’s birthday party as she blows out nine candles. What follows are familiar second-long summaries of happy days. She is shown applying lipstick, lounging among piles of stuffed animals, and using an iPad. But that all changes when suddenly the country is thrown into war.
Then it turns into the most chilling second a day video we’ve ever seen. Just watch:
Save the Children created this video to draw attention to what Syria’s children have faced every day for the past three years. To support their cause, visit their website to donate or share an image with them to include in a collage they are creating to draw more attention to the issue.
