Can you believe it’s already the end of May? Where does the time go?!
Saturday was actually a very special day for me… because a year ago, my husband and I eloped in Toronto! We got married with two witnesses and an officiant in a small public space bursting with flowers, and the sky teetering on the edge of rain… but it stayed dry! Then we stuffed ourselves with French food. What a great day.
We actually got married on our tenth anniversary, so in a way Saturday was both our first and our eleventh anniversary! And I’m still just in love with him as I was at the very beginning! :)

Color a Magick Spell: 26 Picture Spells to Color & Manifest

This coloring book is, as the description says, “more than a coloring book… it’s also a spellbook of powerful magick.” Find love spells, confidence spells, luck spells, inspiration, and more. The pages feature beautiful woodcut-style designs infused with powerful symbols designed to “help you focus while spellcasting.” There are also pages with more information about magick and spellcasting, as you can see in the second example above.
As the name of the book suggests, there are 26 pages to color in this book. Not very much information is available about this book as far as paper quality, but if it is similar to past Llewellyn coloring books, the paper quality will be decent. Their past coloring books had one-sided coloring pages, so that any bleed-through would not affect an image on the opposite side. With 26 pages to color and 144 pages in the book, according to Amazon, I am fairly certain that the images are spaced out by either blank pages or text.

Coloring Book of Shadows: Witch Life

Continuing in the same vein, we’ve got this book by Amy Cesari from her “Coloring Book of Shadows” series – Witch Life! This book includes over 80 pages of original illustrations by Cesari with just as much detail as her 5-star prior coloring book in the series, Book of Spells. The book is printed on thin paper (CreateSpace), but is only printed single-sided so you can always remove the page you’re working on or protect the pages below.

Colorful Colorado Coloring Journal
Release Date: May 16, 2018
Whether you live in Colorado, love to visit, or just love this beautiful state, this coloring journal will help you stay connected. This book was created by Amanda Lenz, an illustrator from Boulder, CO. The 65 images included feature beautiful landscapes, native flora and fauna, uplifting nature quotes, and quick facts about the subjects featured. Each spread includes white space to write, doodle, journal, or take notes.
The paper is smooth and thick, perfect for coloring with colored pencils or markers. The artist suggests gesting any new materials on the glossary page at the back of the book before using it on the coloring pages themselves. Most pages have white space and a quote or small amount of text on the reverse side of the coloring page, but some pages appear to be back to back coloring pages. The pages have micro-perforations to make them easy to remove.

You Are Made of Stars: Inspirational Quotes Adult Coloring Book

Julia Rivers is one of those compilation “illustrators” that a publishing company uses to put out a lot of coloring books quickly. (See: Jade Summers) However, I’ve been pretty impressed at the quality of some of the illustrators Storytroll uses for this line of coloring books. This is an example of that!
This book includes 32 pages to color, printed on just one side of the page. Most pages include people, and each includes an illustrated inspirational quote, such as “Shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” The reverse of the images is block-printed black, a technique that is supposed to reduce bleed-through on the thin paper. The paper is definitely on the thin side — it is published with CreateSpace.

Creative Haven Japanese Designs Coloring Book

Marty Noble has probably illustrated hundreds of coloring books, and now she’s back, dedicating her illustrating prowess to these lovely Japanese designs. These illustrations “draw inspiration from kimono and fabric patterns, Ukiyo-e and Edo period paintings and woodblock prints, lanterns and parasols, Shoji screens and window latticework, vintage matchbox art, and more.” Sounds like a gorgeous collection of Far East designs!
Like other Creative Haven books, this book includes 31 pages to color printed on one side only of medium-weight paper. All pages are perforated.
7. 24 Shades of Business: An Adult Coloring Book
Release Date: May 3, 2018
This book was created by North Carolina-based entrepreneur, Latoya Nicole, who runs an online fashion retail store. This empowerment-themed book focuses on giving the colorist images of successful African American entrepreneurs, with motivational quotes and activities. This book “celebrates the beauty of melanin and black girl magic.” I love the message here!
The book includes more than 20 pages to color and the images are printed on one side of the page only. I haven’t been able to find information about the paper quality.

Magic Dreams Coloring Book

Nadiya Vasilkova is an artist who paints realistic and fantastical images of people and animals using a technique called pointillism. This style of painting or drawing uses tiny dots to build shade and color in certain areas, forming the artwork without always using lines. It’s a very interesting style of artwork!

Nicky Kumar is a popular artist who has built a following of nearly 100,000 people on Instagram for her peaceful mandala-centric artwork. This is her first coloring book, pulling together 25 original designs created by Kumar. Each is printed on one side only of thin (CreateSpace) paper.

Victorian Beauty: Fashion Coloring Book for Adults by Justine Spatola
Release Date: May 18, 2018
This coloring book artist is new to me, although she appears to have recently published several coloring books. This book is labeled as “grayscale,” though from the images on the front and back I don’t get a grayscale vibe. The illustrations are original and hand-drawn by Spatola, whose specialty is Victorian style artwork.
I’m not sure how many unique designs are in this book, although the description states that there are two copies of every image. They are printed on one side only of thin (CreateSpace) paper, printed with solid black on the reverse side of the image (thought to reduce bleed-through with markers).
Magical Beauties Coloring Book: Book 3 by Cristina McAllister
Release Date: May 27, 2018
This lovely new coloring book by Cristina McAllister is the third volume in the Magical Beauties series. These coloring books feature crisply illustrated portraits that feature McAllister’s unique grayscale shading. Color over the gray-printed areas and learn to shade faces!
