Another month, another roundup!
You know, some months I really have to scramble to find some good coloring books to feature in this roundup. But this month I was pleasantly surprised — there are a lot of great new coloring book releases coming out this month, from established publishers and indie publishers alike.
If you like patterns and ornamental designs, you’re going to be especially excited, because there were a lot of great new books in that vein this month!
Something I’d like to hear from you guys: A few months ago, I stopped including as many preview images from the inside of books in these roundups. This was for various reasons, but mostly to respect the artists, whose work has been thrown up illegally for free all over the internet. I don’t support that, so I wanted to stop sharing watermark-free insides of books unless I get express consent from the author before sharing them. Some of you were not happy about this move — it definitely takes a few extra clicks to go over to Amazon and check out the previews, and you liked having them all on one page. What I’m trying to do now is reach a happy medium with these watermarked sample pages, as you see below. What do you think? Creative Haven African Glamour Coloring Book by Marjorie Sarnat and Cia Slater

Creative Haven has a lot of great new coloring books this month, but this one I thought was especially intriguing! Coloring book artist Marjorie Sarnat collaborated with fashion designer Cia Slater to design this beautiful book, filled with African-inspired images. All the figures in the book are shown in striking, stylized silhouettes that pop out from the white background. They are swathed in detailed head wraps and patterned dresses based on traditional African designs. This is the perfect book to really spend some time on!
Like most Creative Haven books, African Glamour featues 31 original illustrations, printed on one side only of the page. The pages are perforated, and the paper itself is a medium weight that plays nice with both colored pencils and markers.

Chinese Decorative Designs Coloring Book

This new coloring book by Pomegranate focuses on beautiful, historical, and highly ornamental textiles called buzi or mandarain squares. These embroidered designs were worn by military and civil officials and the scenes depicted revealed the wearer’s rank. The designs are beautiful and feature animals including lions, tigers, bears, cranes, pheasants and peacocks in equally ornamented scenes. Some of the depictions border on mythological, with animals that might have flames shooting from their body, for example.
The book includes 22 pages to color, printed on one side only of medium weight paper. The paper is not perforated, but there is an ample border to be able to cut the designs out with scissors, if you’d like!
