Mother’s Day Gift for the Eternally Cheerful Mom
The title says it all: clear the table and break out the colored pencils, because Today is Going to Be a Great Day!
Your mom will love this coloring book for its uplifting messages, smattering of scripture, and heavy-duty paper. You’ll love this Mother’s Day gift for its under-$10 price tag.
There are 50 regular pages to color, and then over a dozen pages of gift tags, bookmarks, note cards, and postcards to color and cut out, making it a gift that just keeps on giving.
As I mentioned, the paper is thick, and it is printed on just one side and has perforations to make the pages easy to remove from the book. The artwork inside is a mixture of whimsical patterns, animals, florals, and inspirational quotes, and Bible verses.
Your mom will love this coloring book whether she is a naturally upbeat person or needs the occasional lift now and then.
Inkspirations for Women: Color Your World Happy
Mother’s Day Gift for the Colorist Who Has Everything
Inkspirations for Women is the perfect accompaniment to a female-themed holiday like Mother’s Day. This inspirational coloring book features whimsical doodles of animals, women, mermaids, florals, and more opposite uplifting quotes by and about powerful women. The quoted influencers include Oprah Winfrey, Audrey Hepburn, and Helen Keller.
The book features 30 hand-drawn illustrations, each one opposite an illustrated quote, where you can color the border or keep it blank. The pages are a little on the glossy side and quite thick, and also perforated.
Your mom will love discovering a new favorite quote with each drawing, and coloring mermaids, flowers, peacocks, and other uplifting imagery.
Whatever Is Lovely: An Adult Coloring Book for Reflection and Worship
Mother’s Day Gift for the Devoutly Creative
Whatever Is Lovely is a beautifully hand-illustrated coloring book with 45 pages to color. Many of the pages feature Bible verses from both the Old and New Testament as well as uplifting quotes from others sources. This book turns coloring into a form of worship, as you meditate on the featured quote or piece of scripture while coloring.
The pages are printed on one side only of heavy paper that is perfect for colored pencils, markers, or gel pens.
Magical Jungle: An Inky Expedition and Coloring Book for Adults
Mother’s Day Gift for the Johanna Basford Fan
NOTE: This book is currently only available for preorder and will be released in early August. It will not arrive by Mother’s Day 2016.
Fans of illustrator and “ink evangelist” Johanna Basford have been eagerly awaiting her fourth coloring book since the bestselling releases of Enchanted Forest, Secret Garden, and Lost Ocean. Magical Jungle, a jungle-themed coloring book in her characteristic decorative style, is finally available for preorder, and you’ll want to get in sooner rather than later; last year, there were several lengthy shortages of Basford’s books.
If your mom is a fan of Johanna Basford and her earlier books, you can bet that she will be thrilled to be one of the first to get her hands on Magical Jungle!
A Coloring Book for Knitters
Mother’s Day Gift for the Mom Who Loves to Knit
Does your mom love to knit? If so, this is the coloring book for her! Chock full of knitting ephemera, skeins of yarn, needles, chunky sweaters, and more, she’ll love the whimsical feel of these drawings.
The book’s 30 drawings are printed on one side only. The paper is definitely on the thin side, so if she is coloring with markers she’ll need to protect the next page. Overall, she’ll love filling in the colors, patterns, and textures of yarn as she works her way through this book.
Cats & Quilts: Adult Coloring Book
Mother’s Day Gift for the Mom Who Loves Cats (or Quilting)
If your mom loves cats and/or quilting, or BOTH, have I got a coloring book for her! This book features, as the name suggests, a variety of cats and quilts. The cats are highly realistic, and she can enjoy slowing down and taking her time to develop fur colors and texture in the fabric of the quilts.
In total, there are 24 illustrations to color, printed on one side of light paper. However, each image is printed twice: once at full size, and again at a half-page, 4″x6″ size that is perfect for practice drawing or framing.
Not quite mom’s style, but still looking for something with cats? Check out a roundup of coloring books about cats right here!
Edible Paradise: An Adult Coloring Book of Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables
Mother’s Day Gift for Foodies
Do you look forward to holidays at mom’s house every year just so you can eat her food? Is her favorite place the grocery store or the farmer’s market? Is she an avid gardener who loves to eat what she grows? For moms who love food, and especially the bright abundance of seasonal fruits and vegetables, this coloring book is a perfect gift.
All the illustrations in this book are finely detailed with a high degree of realism. There are a few downsides which will bother some colorists (especially those who color with markers) — for one, the pages are printed on both sides, and many of the pictures are spreads that bleed into the binding. However, this book is very well-suited to a colorist who uses colored pencils and intends to keep the pages inside the book.
This is a gem of a coloring book for the right colorist!
Floribunda: A Flower Coloring Book
Mother’s Day Gift for the Avid Gardener
This gorgeous coloring book was released just one month ago, and already has over a dozen glowing, 5-star reviews on Amazon!
Floribunda is filled to the brim with detailed, realistic illustrations of flowers. They are arranged in shapes, such as squares, circles, and wreaths, and have a satisfying array of textures and line widths.
There are 20 illustrations to color inside the oversized (10×13″) book, and they are printed on one side only of super heavy paper (described by the publisher as “high-quality card”).
If your mother is a gardener or just someone who loves seasonal blooms, this is the perfect book for her. Even moreso if she prefers to use wet media like watercolor pencils, markers, or actual watercolors!
Just Add Color: Wildflowers
Mother’s Day Gift for the Mom Who Loves Bringing the Outdoors Indoors
I’ve been a fan of the Just Add Color series for a long time, so I was thrilled when I saw that Lisa Congdon had released a brand new book with them! This one is themed around wildflowers.
Unlike the previous book, the blooms in this book are abstract and more hand-drawn or doodle-y in quality. It has 30 illustrations to color, printed on just one side of perforated, light-weight pages. Also included are four full-colored sample prints that you can remove and frame.
If realistic blossoms aren’t her style, your mom will love this cute floral coloring book!
Just Add Color: Mid-Century Modern Mania
Mother’s Day Gift for the Stylish Homemaker
If you’ve set foot anywhere near Target lately, you’ll know that mid-century modern furniture is all the rage right now! And with good reason — this classic style is unique, colorful, and has a gorgeous silhouette that really adds an air of distinction to the room.
This is another book in the Just Add Color series, like the last one, but this time illustrated by Jenn Ski. The lines are thinner and less “doodled” than Lisa Congdon’s illustrations.
Some of the illustrations focus on collections of mid-century themed objects, while others show a room. This book is perfect for moms who love interior design and getting the arrangement of their furniture just right!
Advanced Style: The Coloring Book
Mother’s Day Gift for the Mom with Impeccable Fashion Sense
Are you still in awe of your mom’s fashion sense even if she gets older? Then she might enjoy this coloring book rendition of the classic fashion volume Advanced Style.
It features stylish old ladies (and a few old men) drawn in typical street fashion poses against a white background, sometimes with their dog or beside their partner. Your mom will love the wacky outfits and accessories and the fact that she can color them any shade she pleases — even an outlandish purple!
Color Me Cluttered: A Coloring Book to Transform Everyday Chaos into Art
Mother’s Day Gift for the Pleasantly Chaotic Mom
If a trip home is like stepping into a pleasant whirlwind of chaos and comfort, you’ll see the appeal of this unique coloring book. While coloring books focused on interiors usually show an ideal, this book features a more authentic, lived-in quality — our lives are not nearly as neat and minimal as we pretend they are in styled photos.
This book turns clutter into relaxation, and it’s perfect for a mom who is chaotic in the most perfect way.
The Passive-Aggressive Coloring Book
Mother’s Day Gift for the Mom Who Needs to Chill Out
I offer up this book as a tongue-in-cheek gift idea — not for everymom, because you don’t want to use this book as a passive aggressive means of telling her she is passive aggressive! But for a mom with a good sense of humor, this could be the perfect funny coloring book.
This book will calm her down with images to color of situations that are the exact opposite of calm: sourpuss cats, runs in tights, a leaky tea bag, and more.
Coloring Organization Supplies
Mother’s Day Gift for the Colorist Who Has Everything
Has your mother already got all the coloring books and supplies she could possibly need? Then she probably could use a way to organize them all! Click the image above for ideas.
