2. Pusheen Coloring Book
Release Date: October 25, 2016
Pusheen is the loveable, large, and slightly animated cat we’ve all come to know and love from gifs like these:
Now, you can color your own Pusheen in all kinds of scenes: Pusheen the mermaid under the sea, Pusheen feeling the beat in a sea of jukeboxes, or surrounded by all of his favorite foods.
This book is definitely on the simplistic side in terms of coloring: the lines are super thick, the patterns repeat heavily, and the spaces are wide open. But if you love Pusheen, you’ll have a blast with this one regardless.
3. Color At Home: A Young House Love Coloring Book
Release Date: October 4, 2016
This book is one I have personally been looking forward to for months! If you love architecture and interior design, you better start paying attention — this is the adult coloring book for you!
This book was created by the best-selling authors and bloggers behind the popular home blog Young House Love, Sherry and John Petersik. It was illustrated by Joan Borawski and published by Paige Tate & Co. There are 61 pages to color, printed on both sides of the page and including 15 full two page spreads. The paper is pretty heavy, pretty smooth, bright white, and perforated.
The designs included in this book follow a few general themes. Many are interior scenes, one or two page spreads showing a full room with lots of detail to color in the wallpaper, rugs, and furniture. There are a few pages with exterior scenes. Some of the designs are collections of related objects, like decorative pillows, houseplants, mugs, or lamps. The pages that I think are most interesting and unique to this book are illustrated “mood boards,” featuring a few inspiration “photos” to color, fabric and flooring swatches, paint chips, and other trinkets you might gather to inspire a design.
This is an absolutely breathtaking coloring book, and so far, all 20 reviews it has earned so far on Amazon are 5-star. I highly recommend this new book if you are a fan of coloring interior scenes!
4. The Beauty of Horror: A GOREgeous Coloring Book
Release Date: October 4, 2016
This clever coloring book comes to us just in time to make a big debut during Halloween season! I also included it in my list of the best Halloween coloring books for adults, but since it’s been super popular since its release earlier this month I wanted to make sure I included it here!
Here’s the description from the publisher:
Welcome to art therapy for the abnormal. With this coloring book for adults channeling The Walking Dead meets The Secret Garden, comics creator/rock star Alan Robert (Crawl to Me, Killogy, Wire Hangers) invites fans of horror to discover theirinner-colorist. Through intricate pen and ink illustrations to complete, color, and embellish, readers will meet an onslaught of severed heads, monsters, deadly weapons, and skeletal remains. Visit burial grounds, the zombie apocalypse, serial killer lairs, and gruesome torture chambers. Horror fans andnewcomers alike will welcome this GORE-geous and creative journey into a blood-soaked new world.
If you’re still looking for a creepy new coloring book to color during those spooky nights leading up to All Hallow’s Eve — while listening to a bone-chilling podcast, of course — then this could very well be the book for you.
5. HBO’s Game of Thrones Coloring Book
Release Date: October 27, 2016
We’ve seen a Game of Thrones coloring book before, but the earlier one was based directly off of the books while this new one, released by HBO, centers on the television series. The two books include different images, with no overlap, so if you loved the last book, you’ll love this all-new one too!
This new book centers more on the most prominent characters in the series, and is made up of quite a few expansive two-page spreads in addition to single-page illustrations.
This is the perfect book for any fan of Game of Thrones who also loves to color!
6. Creative Haven Bizarro Land Coloring Book: by Bizarro cartoonist Dan Piraro
Release Date: October 19, 2016
My dad is a HUGE fan of Bizarro, and shows me these comics all the time, so when I saw this new release, the first thing I did was email my dad! (Hi, Dad!) And then I included it in this roundup.
For this book, Creative Haven teamed up with Bizarro comic illustrator Dan Piraro to create one of the oddest coloring books available today. Just like his comics, this coloring book includes secret symbols on every page — 11 of them, in fact! Also be prepared for odd angles, human-animal mutations, and all kinds of other bizarre images — it is Bizarro, after all.
As with other Creative Haven books, there are 31 images to color, printed on just one side of the page. The pages are crisp white and perforated for easy removal. The paper is a medium weight that markers can bleed through, so be sure to protect the next page or remove the page you are working on from the book.
If you are looking for an unusual coloring book to keep you occupied, look no further, this is the book for you.
7. Bait: Off-Color Stories for You to Color
Release Date: October 25, 2016
This upcoming release by New York Times bestselling novelist Chuck Palahniuk is more than just a collection of short stories; in addition to the eight short stories contained within, there are also nearly 50 images to color! The images are scenes from the quirky short stories as interpreted by illustrators Lee Bermejo, Kirbi Fagan, Duncan Fegredo, Tony Puryear, Alise Gluskova, Marc Scheff, Steve Morris, and Joelle Jones.
According to the publisher, here are just a few of the riveting stories contained within:
A passenger on the Titanic who finds a surgical solution to the obstacle of “women and children first”. A Hollywood star whose fading brand faces a viral (and scatological) internet campaign. An animal psychic who coaxes a statement from a fish that witnessed a political assassination. Increasingly terrible birthday gifts that place a girl at the center of an extinction-level event.
The book is hardcover and just waiting for you to add color to the stories inside! In fact, the author formally invites you: “Maybe between your colors, the artists’ designs, and my stories we can create something that endures. Something worth keeping. Let’s create a well-bound book that can sit on any shelf and be available for a new generation to discover and enjoy.”
So what are you waiting for? Grab your copy of Bait today!
